Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
Mixing
  1. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
Baking
  1. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart.
  2. Bake for 9-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still slightly soft.
  3. Remove from the oven, sprinkle with sea salt if desired, and let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use good quality chocolate chips. Do not overbake; the cookies will continue to set as they cool. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
