  • 4 cloves Garlic
  • 1 bunch Fresh basil

  • Large pot

Method

Growing Tomatoes
  1. Select a sunny spot in your garden and amend the soil with compost and gardening soil to enrich it.
  2. Plant tomato seeds or seedlings, ensuring they are spaced adequately according to package instructions.
  3. Install tomato cages or stakes to provide support as the plants grow and produce fruit.
  4. Water regularly, especially during dry periods, and prune suckers to encourage fruit production.
Making the Sauce
  1. Once tomatoes are ripe, wash them thoroughly and chop them coarsely.
  2. In a large pot, combine the chopped tomatoes and minced garlic.
  3. Simmer the mixture over low heat for at least 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
  4. Stir in fresh basil during the last 10 minutes of cooking.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and serve warm or cool for storage.

Notes

For an even smoother sauce, you can pass the cooked sauce through a food mill or blender before adding the basil. This recipe focuses on growing your own, but you can certainly adapt it for store-bought fresh tomatoes as well.
