Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup Oatmeal groats (whole, uncooked, hull-less)
  • 4 cups Water

Equipment

  • Glass jar
  • Strainer or cheesecloth
  • Bowl
  • Drying rack

Method

Soaking
  1. Rinse 1 cup of whole, uncooked, hull-less oatmeal groats thoroughly under cold running water.
  2. Place the rinsed groats in a clean glass jar and add 4 cups of fresh, cool water, ensuring the groats are fully submerged.
Draining and Rinsing
  1. After 8-12 hours of soaking, drain the water from the jar and rinse the groats thoroughly with fresh water.
  2. Invert the jar and place it at an angle in a bowl or on a drying rack to allow excess water to drain completely and ensure proper air circulation.
Sprouting
  1. Rinse and drain the groats twice daily, in the morning and evening, for the next 5-7 days.
  2. Observe the groats daily; you will see small sprouts emerging from the ends of the groats, growing longer each day.
Harvesting and Storage
  1. Once the sprouts reach about 1/2 to 1 inch in length, typically around day 7, they are ready for harvest.
  2. Give them a final rinse, then gently pat them dry with a clean cloth or paper towel before storing them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Notes

Ensure your oatmeal groats are whole and hull-less for best sprouting results. Avoid instant or rolled oats as they will not sprout. Maintain good hygiene by rinsing thoroughly to prevent mold. Enjoy your fresh oatmeal sprouts in salads, sandwiches, smoothies, or as a garnish!
