Ingredients

Waffles
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk, warm (105-115°F)
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Equipment

  • large bowl
  • whisk
  • plastic wrap
  • waffle iron

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined; do not overmix. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Lightly grease the waffle iron with cooking spray or butter. Pour about 1/2 cup of batter onto the hot waffle iron for each waffle.
  3. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the waffles are golden brown and crispy. Repeat with the remaining batter.
Serving
  1. Serve the waffles immediately with your favorite toppings, such as fresh fruit, whipped cream, or maple syrup.

Notes

For extra fluffy waffles, separate the egg and whisk the egg white until stiff peaks form, then gently fold into the batter after the first rise.
