Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
Mixing and Baking
- Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add the cold milk, mixing until just combined and a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it to about 1/2-inch thickness.
- Using a biscuit cutter or a floured glass, cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the biscuits are puffed.
Notes
For extra flaky biscuits, avoid overworking the dough. You can also brush the tops with melted butter before baking for a richer flavor and golden crust.
