Preparation
  1. Halve the avocados, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl.
  2. Mash the avocado with a fork or potato masher to your desired consistency.
  3. Add the lime juice, red onion, cilantro, jalapeño (if using), salt, and pepper to the mashed avocado.
  4. Stir all ingredients together until well combined and taste to adjust seasonings as needed.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of cumin or a diced tomato. Serve immediately with tortilla chips or as a topping for tacos and burritos. To prevent browning, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole and refrigerate.
