  • 1 pound Elbow macaroni
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1/2 cup All-purpose flour
  • 3 cups Milk
  • 4 cups Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper

Preparation
  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  3. Whisk in flour and cook for one minute, stirring constantly.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk and cook, stirring, until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  6. Season the cheese sauce with salt and pepper.
  7. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir to coat evenly.
  8. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden.

Notes

For an extra crispy topping, mix breadcrumbs with melted butter and sprinkle over the mac and cheese before baking.
