Dough Preparation
- Activate the yeast by combining warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar; let it sit until foamy.
- Mix the flour, remaining sugar, salt, softened butter, and egg into the yeast mixture until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Assemble and Bake
- Roll out the risen dough into a 12x8 inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
- Spread softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle with a mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll the dough tightly from one long side and pinch the seam to seal it.
- Cut the roll into three equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
- Cover the dish and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the rolls for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown.
Prepare Frosting
- While the rolls are baking, beat together softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
- Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk, beating until the frosting is light and fluffy.
Serve
- Once the cinnamon rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before spreading the cream cheese frosting generously over them.
- Serve warm and enjoy your homemade cinnamon rolls!
Notes
For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg to the filling. If you don't have a warm place for rising, preheat your oven to its lowest setting for a few minutes, then turn it off and place the dough inside.
