  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Equipment

  • large bowl
  • measuring cups and spoons
  • whisk
  • rolling pin
  • baking dish
  • mixer (optional)

Method

Dough Preparation
  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar; let it sit until foamy.
  2. Mix the flour, remaining sugar, salt, softened butter, and egg into the yeast mixture until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Assemble and Bake
  1. Roll out the risen dough into a 12x8 inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  2. Spread softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle with a mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon.
  3. Roll the dough tightly from one long side and pinch the seam to seal it.
  4. Cut the roll into three equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
  5. Cover the dish and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the rolls for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown.
Prepare Frosting
  1. While the rolls are baking, beat together softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk, beating until the frosting is light and fluffy.
Serve
  1. Once the cinnamon rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before spreading the cream cheese frosting generously over them.
  2. Serve warm and enjoy your homemade cinnamon rolls!

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg to the filling. If you don't have a warm place for rising, preheat your oven to its lowest setting for a few minutes, then turn it off and place the dough inside.
