Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 5 medium Granny Smith apples
  • 14 ounces caramels
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 5 Popsicle sticks or skewers
Optional Toppings
  • Chopped nuts
  • Sprinkles
  • Melted chocolate

Equipment

  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Parchment paper
  • Silicone mat (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly, removing any wax. Insert a popsicle stick or skewer firmly into the stem end of each apple.
Melting the Caramel
  1. Unwrap the caramels and place them in a microwave-safe bowl with the milk. Microwave on high for 1 minute, then stir, and continue microwaving in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until the caramel is smooth and melted.
Dipping the Apples
  1. Carefully dip each apple into the melted caramel, rotating to ensure an even coating. Lift the apple and let any excess caramel drip off.
Setting and Topping
  1. Place the dipped apples on a sheet of parchment paper or a silicone mat. If desired, immediately roll or sprinkle toppings onto the caramel before it sets completely. Let the caramel apples cool and set completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator for quicker setting.

Notes

For best results, make sure the apples are completely dry before dipping, as any moisture can prevent the caramel from sticking properly. If the caramel becomes too thick while dipping, microwave it for another 15-30 seconds to loosen it up. These caramel apples make a fantastic treat for parties or a festive snack.
