Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb Beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup Soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Sesame oil
  • 3 cloves Minced garlic
  • 1 tsp Grated ginger
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 stalks Green onions, chopped
  • 1/2 Onion, thinly sliced
For Serving (optional)
  • Cooked rice
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Kimchi

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Skillet or grill pan
  • Tongs

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and black pepper to create the marinade.
  2. Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated; then, add the sliced onions and green onions, mixing gently.
  3. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or preferably for 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld.
Cooking
  1. Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat with a drizzle of cooking oil.
  2. Once hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan, and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until caramelized and cooked through.
  3. Repeat with the remaining beef, cooking in batches if necessary, and remove from heat once all beef is cooked.
Serving
  1. Serve the hot bulgogi immediately with steamed rice and fresh lettuce leaves for wrapping, alongside kimchi.

Notes

For an extra tender bulgogi, marinate the beef overnight. Adjust the amount of brown sugar to your sweetness preference. You can also add sliced mushrooms or carrots to the marinade for more vegetables.
