Ingredients

Salad Greens
  • 1 packet Salad seeds (lettuce, spinach, kale)
  • 1 bag Potting soil
  • 1 Container or garden bed with drainage
Vegetables (Optional)
  • 1 packet Cherry tomato seeds
  • 1 packet Cucumber seeds
  • 1 packet Radish seeds

Equipment

  • Container or garden bed
  • Gardening gloves
  • Small trowel or spade
  • Watering can or gentle hose nozzle
  • Gardening shears or scissors

Method

Planting
  1. Choose a sunny spot for your container or garden bed with good drainage.
  2. Fill the container or bed with potting soil, leaving an inch or two from the top.
  3. Sow the salad seeds according to package directions, usually about 1/4 inch deep and spaced an inch apart; if planting other vegetable seeds, follow their specific instructions.
Care (Days 1-7)
  1. Water gently after planting to moisten the soil and keep it consistently damp, but avoid overwatering.
  2. Place your container in a location that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  3. Thin the seedlings after a few days, once they are a couple of inches tall, leaving the strongest plants spaced 2-4 inches apart for greens, or more for larger vegetables.
Harvesting (Day 7)
  1. By day 7, your salad greens should be ready for harvest; carefully snip the outer leaves with scissors, allowing the inner leaves to continue growing for future harvests.
  2. If you planted other vegetables, continue caring for them as they will take longer to mature.

Notes

For continuous harvest, plant new seeds every week or two. Consider using a balanced liquid fertilizer after the first harvest to encourage further growth. Protect young seedlings from pests with natural deterrents or covers if necessary.
