Method
 

Instructions
  1. Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear; then, melt butter or heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion to the saucepan and sauté until it becomes translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the rinsed rice, broth, salt, and pepper, bringing the mixture to a boil; then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-18 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat, and let it stand, covered, for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork and serving.

Notes

For added flavor, you can toast the dry rice in the butter/oil for a few minutes before adding the broth. You can also add other vegetables like peas or carrots for a more colorful pilaf.
