  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese grated

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
Dough
  1. Stir in the olive oil, salt, and half of the flour, then gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Rising
  1. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Shaping & Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking sheet.
  2. Punch down the risen dough, divide it into 7 equal pieces, and roll each piece into a 8-10 inch long breadstick.
  3. Place the breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet, brush with olive oil, and sprinkle with optional toppings.
  4. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of Italian seasoning to the dough or sprinkle with sesame seeds before baking. These breadsticks are best served warm with your favorite dipping sauce, such as marinara or garlic butter.
