Preparation
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Then, in a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and eggs.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a smooth batter forms. Ensure there are no lumps.
Frying
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).
- Pour about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of batter into a funnel, holding your finger over the opening. Release your finger and move the funnel in a circular motion over the hot oil, creating a lattice pattern.
- Fry for 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Carefully remove the funnel cake with tongs and place it on a wire rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serving
- Dust generously with powdered sugar and serve immediately. You can also add your favorite toppings like fruit, whipped cream, or chocolate sauce.
Notes
For best results, maintain a consistent oil temperature throughout frying. Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure even cooking and browning. You can experiment with different toppings to customize your funnel cake.
