Preparation
- Wash and sort the blackberries, discarding any unripe or damaged ones. Transfer them to a large pot.
Cooking the Jam
- Add sugar and lemon juice to the pot with the blackberries. Stir well to combine.
- Cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture boils.
- Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the jam thickens and reaches desired consistency.
Jarring and Storage
- Carefully ladle the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch headspace.
- Seal the jars and process them in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes to ensure proper sealing.
Notes
For a smoother jam, mash the blackberries slightly before cooking or use an immersion blender after cooking. The jam can be stored in a cool, dark place for up to 1 year, or in the refrigerator after opening.
