- Melt butter in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat; then, add the corn kernels and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly tender.
- Sprinkle flour over the corn and butter, stirring constantly for 1 minute to create a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream, bringing the mixture to a simmer while stirring constantly until it thickens.
- Stir in sugar (if using), and season with salt and black pepper to taste; then, reduce heat to low and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Remove from heat and serve hot as a delicious side dish.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of cayenne pepper or smoked paprika. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley or chives before serving.
