Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey, then pat it dry with paper towels.
Flavoring
- In a small bowl, mix softened butter with chopped rosemary, thyme, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Rub this mixture evenly all over the turkey, including under the skin.
Roasting
- Place the turkey on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan. Roast for 30 minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue roasting for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh reads 165°F (74°C).
- Baste the turkey every 30 minutes with the pan juices to keep it moist.
Resting
- Once cooked, remove the turkey from the oven, tent it loosely with foil, and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring a tender and flavorful turkey.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can stuff the turkey cavity with aromatics like onion halves, lemon, and additional herbs.
